Weine mit außergewöhnlicher Identität

Linea Anfora

In 2011, Francesco Cirelli set out to find a vessel that would accompany the grapes

during winemaking whilst at the same time bringing out the character of the terroir

as clearly as possible – and so the amphora was incorporated into his winemaking

process, becoming one of the estate’s most distinctive features over the years. It allows

fermentation and ageing to take place without introducing the aromatic influence of

other materials, thereby keeping the focus on the character of the grapes and their

development. The result is a wine that expresses the individual character of each grape

variety and the terroir. The »Linea Anfora« range includes Trebbiano d’Abruzzo

DOC, Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC and Abruzzo

Pecorino DOC, as well as the Trebbiano d’Abruzzo DOC Amphora 2022,

which has been aged for a particularly long time in the amphora.

Top 100 of Italy

Tedeschi’s Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva Capitel Monte Olmi 2019 has received a significant international accolade with its inclusion in James Suckling’s Top 100 Italian Wines 2026. This year, Suckling placed particular emphasis on identity and connection to the terroir – a trend that Tedeschi has long pursued and interpreted. In 1964, Lorenzo Tedeschi decided to vinify the grapes from the historic Monte Olmi vineyard separately, thereby

creating the first Amarone cru. This groundbreaking decision is still reflected today in the Capitel

Monte Olmi Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico Riserva. The 2019 vintage has a mineral

freshness and a long balanced finish.

Arctic Barolo

What happens to a wine that is aged for a year in Arctic waters? This fascinating question,

which was investigated in a joint project between Rivetto and Hurtigruten, has now been answered. In September, the 1,002 bottles of Rivetto Barolo – which had previously been aged traditionally in oak barrels for 24 months – were brought back to the surface after spending 12 months at a depth of 34 metres off the coast of Kirkenes in northern Norway. In a comparative tasting with bottles stored in a wine cellar, the »Arctic Barolo« displayed a brighter, more youthful ruby-red colour, as well as a fresher and more precise aromatic profile characterised by notes of wild berries and flowers. The tannins also appear fresher and crisper, lending the wine a more youthful character overall. You can sample this special wine on board the Hurtigruten ships whilst

cruising along the Norwegian coast.

Assyrtiko is one of Europe’s most exciting grape varieties: salty and with a sharp acidity, this wine reflects the terroir in the glass more faithfully than almost any other. Its main growing region is on the Greek Cycladic island of Santorini, with its volcanic soils and strong winds that deposit sea salt on the grapes. The grape retains its natural acidity even in this extremely hot, dry climate. The end result is a very dry white wine which, alongside citrus notes, displays primarily mineral and salty flavours.
